Welcome to Bringing the past to life for the citizen

Bringing the past to life for the citizen is a UK Grand Challenge initiative, supported by the UK Computing Research Committee. It involves a multidisciplinary network of academics with the aim to develop technologies which will allow citizens to witness events of the past interactively.

We believe on the importance of our past and its effect on how we perceive our identity as individuals, communities and as a nation:

"The historic environment is a physical record of what our country is, how it came to be, its successes and failures. It is a collective memory, containing an infinity of stories, some ancient, some recent: stories written in stone, brick, wood, glass, steel; stories inscribed in the field patterns, hedgerows, designed landscapes and other features of the countryside." (UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport)

We aim to pursue this Grand Challenge by bringing together heritage professionals and computer scientists in order to achieve revolutionary advances in this area. This will have a major impact on the public and on future generation's educational and leisure experiences.
